I had been following Rosana on Instagram for a few months and then had the pleasure of meeting her in real life at a local craft fair a few months ago. She is an incredibly lovely person full of excitement and smiles, I can’t wait for you to get to know her a little bit better.

I’m an artist and surface pattern designer. I’m passionate about creating art that can be used not only to hang on the walls but also to decorate and enhance everyday items. I believe that art should be integrated into our daily lives, whether it is a personal accessory, home decor item, or anything that can bring us joy.
When I need inspiration for my work, I usually turn to nature, art exhibitions, and flea markets. I love modern design, especially from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, and I’m totally captivated by Abstract Expressionism. I put a lot of effort into making each of my pieces unique by personally hand-drawing and painting them, which adds a personal and organic touch. After that, I digitize them and use programs like Photoshop and Illustrator to create new compositions and patterns.
Of course! I usually create my own products like home decor and fashion accessories, I sell them on my online shop and at Craft & Art fairs around town.
However, I recently had a chance to work on a very special project for a music studio in Los Angeles. I collaborated with their Art Director to customize acoustic panels for 10 of their studios, using my fabrics. She picked her favorite designs from my portfolio, and I adjusted the colors and scales to fit this project. Seeing my designs blown up on their walls was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot from this venture, playing with colors I wouldn’t normally use and being pleasantly surprised with the results. It taught me to be more daring with bold colors and larger scales, which has set me on the right path for my future creations.
My advice is to consistently show up every day. This practice is a continuous learning and evolving process. Pursue what you’re passionate about, as it’s something no one else can do for you. There are many ways to monetize your work; you simply need to discover the one that aligns with you and persist in your efforts.
I’ve mainly been getting involved in classes and community groups to connect with peers. I love attending monthly calls and meeting up with local artists in person whenever I get the chance. One class that really stood out to me was taught by Sarah Watts. She is not only an amazing artist but also a mentor with extensive industry experience. I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be partnering with her for the 2023 From Paint to Pattern course! Initially, I was intimidated by Photoshop, but Sarah made it accessible and now I mostly use Photoshop to create texture patterns – a huge accomplishment that I’m really proud of!
