What is Pitch Like a Pro and is it for me?

Pitch Like a Pro is first and foremost an accountability program.

There are a lot of wonderful courses, blog posts, YouTube videos, and podcasts that can teach you how to pitch your artwork. In 2022 I took Shannon McNab’s Pitch Your Portfolio course for just that reason. IT WAS AMAZING! I can’t recommend it enough. Shannon is an incredible teacher!

After I took her course I had the confidence to send out my first pitch emails. But, I found it hard to stay consistent with my pitching and following up. 

In the summer of 2023, I hired my creative coach Liz. Sometimes having someone look at your goals and your business from the outside in is helpful and that’s what Liz did for me. Together we set a goal for the number of companies I would pitch and she checked in on me each week to see how it was going.

During the first three months I spent working with Liz I sent out over 100 pitch and follow-up emails. There’s nothing like someone holding you accountable to get you to follow through. Pitching is truly a numbers game, which means the more you pitch, the more likely you are to land a licensing deal. During those three months, I developed a simple and sustainable system for pitching my artwork. As a result, I landed my first two licensing deals! It was that experience that led me to create Pitch Like a Pro. 

A Little Bit About the Program

I wanted to keep this program sleek and simple. Instead of building a huge video course, I wanted to create something streamlined. I also wanted it to last long enough to give participants a chance to build confidence and momentum.

Here’s what the 12-week program includes:

1. One email each week over the 12-week course in both written and audio formats.
2. Weekly action steps in each email to keep you on track and slowly build momentum over time.
3. Access to me and your cohort through a Voxer group chat. I’ll be available to answer your questions and will be checking in on you each week to help you move forward. Consider me your personal accountability partner.
4. Course resources include a company information spreadsheet template, a pitch tracking spreadsheet, and pitch email examples.

At this point, you might be wondering whether this program is for you.

This program is for you if:

• You have at least at least 10 pieces of artwork you are super proud of and want to pitch to companies.
• You know how to pitch your work, but you can’t seem to find the courage to hit send on your pitch emails.
• You want to start pitching your work but feel overwhelmed by the process and need help setting up systems to keep your pitching consistent.
• You want someone to help guide you through the process, answer your questions, and cheer you on.

What if I don’t have at least 10 pieces of artwork?

Keep creating! Take your time, enjoy the process, and keep creating work you are proud of. Don’t feel the need to rush through the process, take your time and enjoy it. You will reach a point where you are ready to start pitching your work, until then enjoy the journey. 

What if I don’t know how to pitch my work? 

My primary goal is to help artists who know how to pitch their work. If you don’t know how to pitch your work I highly recommend taking Shannon’s Pitch Your Portfolio course. It’s the perfect first step. Once you’ve learned the pitching process I would love to be your pitching accountability partner.
